Galaxy (Nebulae) Nails

Starships, were meant to fly, hands up and touch the sky...

Hello everyone! Today I have a nail art design to show you that I actually quite enjoy. I was sitting at my desk for about an hour trying different things on my nails and then starting from scratch again. Third time in, I decided I'd try out galaxy/space/nebulae/starry nails for myself. I've seen a lot of tutorials on this design on Youtube and Pinterest, but I got the most inspiration from Google Images actually! I used a lot of different polishes for this design, and it took quite a while for me actually trying to get the colors to show up. Oh well, at least it turned out alright (I think)!

Wheeuuu that's a ton of polishes!
Now for the fun stuff ;)

I like the ring finger the best!

So here's what I did. I painted 1 coat of Black Tie (best black polish ever because it's super opaque in one coat) and then waited for that to dry. Meanwhile, I ripped my sponges, dabbed the polishes onto some paper, just basically prepping everything. Once the base color was dry, I took my sponges in the tweezers and dabbed them into the polishes, corresponding sponges with the color family so they wouldn't get mixed and muddied up. Randomly sponging color onto my nails, some spots are more opaque than others as you can see. After that, I finished with Techno to add some 'stars' and then Seche Vite to seal it all in. Ta-da! Piece of cake! (Just took me a while..)

What do you guys think of this design? Any suggestions for how I could've gotten the colors to be more vibrant and/or opaque? Let me know in the comments below!

Thanks for reading!
Mandy

  1. I love the deep space look you created with these!

If you do want to try getting the colours to pop a little more, you might try first sponging on a white (or light pink, etc.) polish over the black, then building your colours on top of that. I think they look smash just the way they are, though. ;)
